Who am I?
My name is Joshua Ocero, first born of four siblings who hail from a district deep in the Northern part of the country. My father is a Langi from Apac and my mother is a Langi from Atapara. This naturally(or rather culturally) makes me a Langi from Apac! I however grew up in Kampala, where I am currently studying at University.
Ever since I was a little boy, I have always loved to interact with computer systems. I first used a computer way back when I was 10 years old and my love for it has grown ever since then. I am now currently pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science at Makerere University. Computer Science in Uganda though catching up fast, is never a favourite course that parents want their kids to do. My father wanted me to do Engineering or Medicine like him. But I pray that someday he will be proud of seeing a son who surpuses his wildest expectations.
Growing up as a child was never easy for me. I did the early years of my primary education at Nakasero Primary School, one of the oldest schools in the coutry. However, because of family issues, I had to leave Nakasero in my final year and move to St. Kizito Primary School in Northern Uganda. My move to a academically "poorer" school had many suggest that it could have been the cause for my relatively poor performance in the Final exams.
I failed to get my first choice secondary school Kings College Buddo, so I was instead taken to a private school - St. Lawrence Citizens High School, where I spent the next 6 years of my life. At the end of my stay there, I was still not able to get my first choice at the university - Engineering. I was a bit dissapoited because everybody had alot of hope in me doing excellently. But little did they know that God had planned my life all out. I was warmly accepted into Computer Science at FCIT and my academic life has never been the same again.
I finally found a place where my creativity and imagination can be fully exploited, thus explaining my extreme love for programming. Within my three yeara at campus, I have managed to position myself among highly competent computer specialists. I have gained a considerable reputation in both windows and linux troubleshooting, I am a Cisco Certified Network Associate(CSCO11487470), I have admirable programming skills and I am quick to learn whatever technologies appropriate.
From a non professional perspective, I am a God fearing young man who always trys to listen for God's calling in my life (Just like Apache listening for Server requests :-)). I love to make and KEEP friends but above all, I like to listen to them and help out whenever I can. I believe sharing knowledge is the best way we can improve ourselfs as the human race. Two heads are certainly better than one. I am also a committed worker and love to learn new things. I believe God has a plan for each and every one of us, I work hard to share this vision God has for me.
My Passion
If there is one thing I appreciate my university education for, it is for introducing me to the filed of programming. I have always had an imaginative and creative mind. So programming has become my passion because I get to play 'god' on whatever systems my mind can think of.
Upon graduation, I intend to build strong and robust systems for everyday use, starting with places I went to while growing up. I have planned to build Record Management Systems for all the schools I have attended as I improve my marketability and experience.
I am intend to embark on research projects upon my graduation. I for example intend to develop systems to improve the education system in Uganda. Students should make better use of computers to study. By developing systems to handle class work and revision, computers will be positively used and accepted in schools.
